				Photo below shows the Schaefer 
				furling unit.  Unit is shown upside down. The 'C' bracket 
				with clevis pin was fastened to the furler with some sort of 
				nut, that was secured by a stainless roll pin. 
				 
				The 1/2in course threaded stud/bolt 
				at the bottom of the furler is drilled to accommodate the roll 
				pin. Nut shown is just for the photo, the original fastener 
				'disappeared' under sail. (coupled with the foot of the jib/furler 
				suddenly lifting under sail). Roll pin was found broken in two 
				pieces. 
				
				The jib has the stay sewn into the 
				luff.  There is a swivel at the top of the mast to allow it 
				to furl. The furler/jib are not on the head stay, but secured to 
				the deck just aft of the head stay. 
				 
				Indications are the original nut was likely drilled thru to 
				accommodate the roll pin.  |
