Schaefer Furling Unit

           Early 70's Vintage Schaefer Furling

Photo below shows the Schaefer furling unit.  Unit is shown upside down. The 'C' bracket with clevis pin was fastened to the furler with some sort of nut, that was secured by a stainless roll pin.

The 1/2in course threaded stud/bolt at the bottom of the furler is drilled to accommodate the roll pin. Nut shown is just for the photo, the original fastener 'disappeared' under sail. (coupled with the foot of the jib/furler suddenly lifting under sail). Roll pin was found broken in two pieces.

The jib has the stay sewn into the luff.  There is a swivel at the top of the mast to allow it to furl. The furler/jib are not on the head stay, but secured to the deck just aft of the head stay.

Indications are the original nut was likely drilled thru to accommodate the roll pin.
